Bottom Door Bar Hook?

Can anyone tell me where a Bottom Door Bar Hook is mounted and how it works?

Bottom Door Bar Hook

(I tried to post this once before but it seems to have gotten lost in cyber space - at least I couldn't find the posting or a reply.)

It slips up from the bottom and holds the door closed like a paper clip. Of course, you can't use it when you are inside the trailer... Only for storage.

Thanks. I was trying to envision something that pulled the door bottom closed tighter while I was inside.

I took the dang thing off and threw it away. Just painted mild steel that was more rust than anything. I haven't noticed any thing bad happening because of it. YMMV

Ever since I saw that thing in the Scamp 'parts store online' I've been trying ti imagine how it would be installed & work?? Also been trying to figure out for sure what is the 'Bottom Door Slide' & whether or not its function is structural or just another 'maybe nice to have' item?? On my Scamp it is rusted and the door bottom only makes contact with it for about 3" before closing completely. Appears it does prevent the door from 'binding' on the weather stripping so perhaps I should just take it off, sand blast & paint then reinstall. It works to 'hold' the hinge side of the door out about a quarter inch so I'm gonna need to install additional weather striping at the bottom after I get all the other 're-work' done. Also, some PO had apparently encountered an obstruction that took a good sized 'scrape' off the lower body & damaged the door edge trim which may require re-glassing & trim replacement. Here's pix, & no, the wheel ain't tilted, just the pic angle...

Well this was something new to me so I did some investigation and think I know exactly what it is for.

First, the Scamp parts store calls is a "slide" and says this:
Lower edge of door slides along door slide when closing. Aides on a new door that fits too tight.
Watching my door close, I can see where the front bottom edge of the door would rub against the seal, and no doubt damage it if the slide were not present. It does not show real well in a video but I have included some video of the door edge closing against the slide. The second video is from underneath, the same view you would get if you laid flat on your back looking up from under the door.

I expect that if your seal is well broken-in at the bottom front then the slide might not be needed but if you have a new seal then the slide will protect the seal from being damaged by the door edge. I do not think it is structural in any way.
