Three years ago a U-haul installer put the wrong hitch on my PU and became very rude when I asked for it to be relaced with the correct one.

I ended up calling the area office for Uhaul, They were most helpfull and apologetic.

They made an appointment for me at another U-haul store and installed the correct hitch.
They even through in a free draw bar.
Call the area office and they will take care of you.

I agree that my experience hopefully isn't the norm. In my area there aren't other UH shops that do this type of work--only rental stores. I have an appointment tomorrow at another non-UH shop. Once this is done I do plan to contact the area office. My experience was not totally negative--two of the people I've dealt with so far were quite nice (just not able to fix it!!) However, one guy I dealt with was so rude that another employee came out to my car to apologize. I've planned all along to follow up on that--now I'm just waiting to do it all at once!

Tonight I'm feeling much more optimistic about this. The shop that will be working on it tomorrow has a great reputation and does a lot of trailers. The only reason I hadn't gone there in the first place is that they didn't have that 6-pin adapter on hand the day I needed to go pick up my Casita, so they referred me to UHaul. They will start from square one and do the whole thing. It will be fine! Thanks to you all for your thoughts and suggestions. I'm so looking forward to playing with my new trailer!

Follow-up: Just picked up my pickup; though I probably won't hitch up and test until Thursday, everything seems to be working the way it should. When I hooked up to the trailer, I had a signal instead of the E1 message. I am so excited!

I have contacted UHaul and explained the situation and that I will be protesting the installation charge. I have contacted my credit card company.

The controller was fine. It just had to be "re-wired, front to back". He said it was a mess.

I am glad to put this to bed and get on with my travels!

Great.
I'm glad it's all working now.
Good luck with UHaul.
Maybe we'll see on the road.
