Brake Controller Light

Recently I had the taillight assembly replaced on our tow vehicle. At the same time I noticed that the brake controller light was constantly on without towing the trailer. While talking with Casita I mentioned this because I thought it might have something to do with the work on the tail light. The response was that they did not think so and that this has happened to other vehicles. The thought is that the connection gets wet and shorts? out causing the light to go on. This may be true since during that time we had a lot of rain. Today I plugged in the pigtail just to check out the trailer lights and noticed that the controller light is no longer. Coincidence? Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks.

Brake Controller Light

Off-hand, I would guess that you have corrosion in the tow-vehicle side of your trailer connector.

light on

HI: I am having the same problem. I was told by Tekonsha, the maker of the Voyager brake controller that the brake line from the controller is grounding out most likely because of water getting into the plug. Now when I installed this myself I solderd every connection and used shrink tubing to insullate the connections. I also back loaded the Bargman 7way with RTV silicone sealent , filling it to the max to keep out any water, dirt or moisture. BUT they did'nt provide a weather proof gasket at the door flap opening, and to me thats really stupid. Now I have to move the plug because of thier lack of oversite on the most important thing moisture will effect " MY ELECTRIC BRAKES ". I am totally upset over it. They know they have this problem but do nothing about it. I will keep calling them intill they remidy the problem or hell freases over.

Dielectric Grease

I don't know of any Bargman plug that has a weatherproof gasket on the flap. Use liberal amounts of dielectric grease for trailer connectors, tail light bulbs, and the bulb in those annoying porch lights.

WWW source of Dielectric grease for trailer connectors.

brake controllerite

:wave Folks, i just had a protege installed professionally and mine stays on all the time. When I hook the trailer up it still everything works just grand. I just assumed it was supposed to stay lit but when it comes to electricity I'm not only dumb but, I don't even suspect anything. Is this not normal:O :chased

brake controller light

Bill:

I don't have a protege, but my guess is that somethings not right. Doesn't make sense (to me) that the light would be on all the time....:o

My drawtite controller light comes on when you depress the brake pedal.

My Tekonsha Voyager light is out until I plug the trailer plug into the tow vehicle.

Brake Controllers

My husband has a Voyager and I have a Prodigy.

The Voyager light is only lit when trailer is connected.

My Prodigy shows this. When nothing is attached and I turn the key on, there is a small red dot that shows that there is power to the unit. When the trailer is connected then there is a 'C'. If the power boost is on, then there is another dot. If all things are in order and in use, it will look like this: . C .

Because the unit showed power even after I removed the key from the ignition and opened my door, I was worried that there was constant power to the unit. This is not correct. There is a time delay on my (and I stress MY) vehicle that turns it off after awhile.
