Brake controllers

I was looking for the Prodigy brake controller and was told that this one by Draw Tite is made by the same manufacturer and is exactly the same as the Prodigy Controller.

Is this so, are they really the same thing?? Thanks

(And why are these things so much more $$ here than on these US web sites?? The going rate here is $250 before tax!)

Dave, Is this model's main feature that sets it apart from the one I was going to go with the ability to switch between electric and hydraulic brakes? I'm not thinking I will need that ability. Any other reason to consider this model over the other one? Thanks!

I believe Tekonsha makes the Prodigy for companies like Draw-Tite and UHaul. When I bought mine new on EBay, it came in a UHaul box but is indeed a Prodigy and was swappable for a new one at an RV dealer when I later had trouble with it (Lifetime Warranty).

That is one of its features. I think the digital read out is also diferent than the one you are looking at. The P3 is there newest controler with advanced features. It looks to me to be their better controler and the price is right for me.

Tekonsha and Draw-Tite (and Reese and Hidden Hitch and Bargman and...) are divisions of Cequent Towing Products... yes the Prodigy-like Draw-Tite is a Prodigy. Mine has "Cequent" marked in the case, but it came branded as a Tekonsha.

The P3 is essentially the next-generation of the Prodigy: see Want a Prodigy Brake Controller (v. 2.6) for one discussion of both the Prodigy/P3 difference, and the Canadian pricing issue.

I got totally hosed on this --$254.35 after tax! ...and for the 'older model' to boot!!! Good thing that Mail-In Rebate is also good in Canada! I'll be mailing mine ASAP!!

I don't think that's far off of the typical retail price here. I had one special-ordered, paid almost that much a couple years ago, and got no refund. Yes, it's too much compared to in the U.S., but with the importance of the device, I decided to not worry about it... it's not the place to go cheap.
