Breaking down side dinette into bed

Hi all,

Our 16 Scamp has the bed in the back (table permanently down and all table hardware has been removed and stored.

We have the side dinette but wanted to see how well it would work for another bed.

The table top comes off easily with a little rotating motion but the round pedestal does not seem to want to budge. I am hesitant to get a large pipe wrench to try to rotate it and it does not pull straight up.

Ideas on how to remove the pedestal welcomed.

If yours is like mine, it just pulls out. You may need to rock it back-and-forth and round and round while pulling out to get it to budge. They are a tapered shaft, and can get pretty tight due to bouncing down the road.

Would a spray of WD40 help loosen it up?

Just rock it side to side a bit.
For when the table is up, I added a wood cleat to the wall under the table to help keep it from rocking. Ran screws through from outside with the usual plastic cups and caps. Then a couple of 1/4" dowels through the back edge of table into the cleat.

I don't have a side dinette, but I know Scamp recommends lowering the main dinette for travel. It might be a good idea for the side dinette, too. The weight of the table top combined with road vibrations is probably what got it wedged in there so tightly.

I had a van once with a pedestal table, and the advice given is exactly what I had to do sometimes. Never had to resort to WD-40, though.

Having had a Casita and other RVs with pedestal tables I agree with the others. If you do have to twist it, try a bottle/jar opener. They have a rubber grip band and a handle that will give you some leverage without damaging the surface.

If it's really stuck, try a little heat around the edges.
