In the early 80's I got the not-so-bright idea of using
paint thinner (mineral spirits) instead of bug and tar remover on a '74 Plymouth. After all, I reasoned, the mineral spirits was both stronger and cheaper.
A year or so later, the enamel
paint on the car showed clear signs of damage. So now I tend to be more careful to only use products for their intended purposes unless I have done some research.
