Bunk Bed poles - the diameter of them

Hello!

I'm still trying to make the upper bunk bed for my '05 Scamp 13'. I'm needing to find out what diameter the poles are that hold up the bunk bed. Are they exactly 1 inch or are they 3/4" or what??

By the way, if anyone has some bunk bed poles you wouldn't mind parting with, please let me know. It might be much easier than trying to make them.

Also, if anyone has the foam and cover or just the cover for the upper bunk, I'd be very interested in buying that from you too.

Thanks for all the help! I'm trying to get the Scamp ready for a 3000 mile journey with my wife and two little girls (ages 4 and 7). They are really excited!

The material is probably more important than the dimension unless there's a "slot" or something they have to fit into. What are you using?

By the way:

I don't know how far along you are with the project, but the best/simplest bunk arrangement I ever saw is one in the '50's Shasta trailers. It's a piece of canvas on two poles, sorta like a stretcher. One side rests on a wall bracket and one side rolls out and hooks into another bracket for use. When not being used, just rolls back up against the wall!

I have a 1975 Trillium with bunks. The poles are 1 inch OD. The bottom fiberglass bench has a molded dimple and the bottom of the top bunk has a chrome flange which the poles rest in. The lenght would be set to make the top bunk level or slightly tilted inward.

Picture of Shasta Bunkbed, no lower support poles required. There's a "review"/full description at 61 Shasta Compact Canvas Bunk:

I slept in a sling bunk as a kid in an old Shasta. They require blocks to be fiberglassed so there's a place for the poles. Unfortunately Scamp isn't built that way.

Tim, you can get the poles from Scamp: http://shop.scamptrailers.com/p-314-bunk-post.aspx Two for $12.50

My Shasta's bunk supports are attached to the interior studs.

For a molded trailer:

Fiberglassing blocks in is pretty simple/cheap...that is, if one's averse to putting a few bolts through the outside of the wall, which is the way I'd do it.
