Burro Door.... HELP !

I have a 1999 17' Burro Travel Trailer. The trailer was broken into via the entrance door. They kicked the glass in destroying the door, window and the screen door. They ended up taking everything but the food. (but no appliances)

I need assistance in finding a replacement door and screen that will fit the Burro. Does anyone have any ideas on who I can contact to get me a door. As of the moment I have no way to secure the Trailer and I can not move it (unless I duck tape the door closed and then it can not be trusted)

Any assistance as soon as possible is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Joe: Do you have a digital camera? Can you provide a photo of your existing door? And the exact measurements? I vaguely remember that some of the newer Burros have a standard RV door. If that is the case, I can provide you with the names of a few surplus and salvage yards that could assit you. Or I could act as a middleman to buy, pickup, and ship the door to you. May be costly, considering it is an oversized item to ship. Or if it is a standard RV door, go to a local RV service center, they should be able to order a new one, and install it for you.

If you door is like the one as pictured on this newer Burro, it is a standard RV entry door.

Door...

I do not have measurements, but I can out and get them. The trailer is now about 2 hours north of my current location. I had to leave the trailer in a semi-secure location until the Criminal Division of the Sheriff Department comes out to take fingerprints. But the image you posted is exactly like the Burro I have.

About how much do those doors cost? Something I need to know for the insurance company.

Oh, and thanks for the fast reply.

Joe and Ray, the shipping should be included in the insurance costs. Too bad, sorry to hear about your woes, Joe.

Joe:

I will be going to one of the rv salvage yards today on Sunday, I will try to look around, and ask what a standard door will cost.

Joe ... sorry for your troubles, man!

I agree with Ray ... it appears to be a standard RV door ... can you pull it to an RV repair shop? They should be able to measure, order, etc.

If they can't ... Casita used to install a square door like that on their 17 footer. Maybe they can sell you one (if the dimensions are right.)

Your troubles are one of my worst "on-the-road" nightmares, because the doors to most of our little fiberglass wonders are not easy to find (I think you'll find one... it just might take some time to get it delivered, etc).

As a result, even though I keep a bunch of diamonds and about US$500,000 in cash in my trailer, I don't lock the trailer door. I figure if anybody wants the cash and jewels, they are welcome to them ... just please don't break my door!)

Thanks... thanks and thanks again...

Ray, if you find a door let me know. They really trashed the door pretty bad. When I go back up (tomorrow maybe) I will take some pictures.

It looks like they kicked the door window in destroying the window and the frame and bending the door all up. Then for some reason they bent the screen door all up, maybe trying to reach in and open the door and unlock it.

I will also get measurement of the door. All I can say right now is that it is a a flat aluminum door with a built in screen door on the back side of it. Since I did not handle the door or the handle (so I would not damage possible evidence) I don't know if they trashed the door frame area where the lock is.

Also, I am glad I had a lock on the hitch or they may have attempted to drive away with the trailer itself.

Joe W.

Really sorry to hear what happened. Hopefully, by posting it here, there will be those who can help you fast track the parts so you can get it repaired and on the road again.

Measurements

Joe:

Will need the exact measurements. Was your fiberglass damaged?
Was you door frame damaged? Sort of need to know...

Ray....

CID is supposed to be out at the trailer tomorrow to take fingerprints and examine the trailer. They are supposed to call me when they arrive. I will be going out to secure the trailer the best I can and I will take measurements and get details as soon as possible once they are done. And thanks again.

The door

If it a fiberglass door it can probably be repaired, try calling a boat repair (fiberglass) guy and if it is fiberglass you may be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck
