Buying in one state (MI) & pulling to another (IN)

:o Help - I have purchased a Shadow Cruiser Fun Finder in Michigan & need to pull it to Indiana - can someone tell me how the temporary plate thing works, the dealer said we needed a transfer plate? that could only be gotten during the week, but because my husband is new to his job he can only go on weekends. Anyone else have this experience?

I'm sure this changes from state to state. first thing I would do is talk to YOUr tag agent and see what they need for the title and what you need to get it there. maybe it's different. I had no tag for mine, come from Canada to Oklahoma. no one looked at me twice. Here, as long as it is a new purchase and you have the purchase papers with you, you can take it home.

We've bought a car in Chicago, driven through Indiana to spend the weekend in Michigan before driving back to Texas (through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and of course, Texas).

We've done this three times (don't ask!)

Never have had any kind of temporary plate. Never have had anyone stop us.

Maybe we've just been lucky...?

I'm pretty sure the bill of sale will get you home. You usually have x number of days to apply. Then you apply for a plate in your home state. Unless you harass the cop I can't believe you'd get busted. But you should check with the various DMV's in each state to be safe.

Ray is right. I stand corrected. I forgot that Indiana has perfected every possible way to get money out of you, they must have learned this from Illinois.

;) Thanks for all the input. I called Indiana BMV they said b/c it's coming from MI the dealer supplies the plate. So... I called MI BMV they said I need a In-transite plate called a RD108. It can only be gotten on the week day, who ever the $ & title name is in must sign IN PERSON. They would not mail it, fax it, etc... Therefore I'm going the make the 8 hour round trip twice. :( Once to sign papers & apply for the plate (which they will process during the week) & once to pick it up. But anyhow - I'll be a new fiberglass TT owner on May 3rd. Thank You for all your help.

If you bought a Shadow Cruiser Fun Finder than you will own a travel trailer. I question fiberglass as all Shadow Cruisers I have seen are stick built. They are not a fiberglass built camper trailer.
But welcome to the world of small travel trailers!

Stacy -- don't consider it a put-down! Shadow Cruiser is considered by many to be the cream of the "stick built" crop. They do use wood framing underneath the fiberglass skin, but the overall design and build quality is generally a cut above the average. I'm sure you will get years of great fun out of it. But also realize that we are all a little wacko about our wonderful little eggs! I am also from Indiana - near Warsaw. I didn't notice where you are from.

Paul thanks for the king words, I now realize that molded fiberglass is the entirely one piece egg shaped campers & a shape & way of construction - not the material used to make it light weight. Everyone here on the forum has been very nice & helpful thanks.:)

Oh those Shadow Cruiser Fun Finders are little dreams. I checked into them myself and like them a lot. So Stacy your just a fiberglassrv travel trailer owner with out the mold-ed part. :) it's stll cute as a button and pulls behind a vehicle. Glad you came, and hope you stay.

:) Well we go next weekend to get the Shadow cruiser fun finder - After alot of calling the DMV in Michigan & bugging the dealer ALOT I've worked it out so we can make one trip (instead of 2) to get it.
If you just search under Shadow Cruiser their web site will come up If you've never seen one, although only 13' the floor plan has lots of openess & storage, we take it out for the first time on Memorial day to Oblong IL, fair grounds (my Grammie's hometown). Happy Camping!
