California "legal" sewer connection

Hi,
We ran into a problem in California, which has a law that all sewer connections must be airtight. One campground we stayed at wouldn't allow us to run our greywater hose into the sewer . (But they did allow us to drain our greywater into an open bucket )
I pondered on how to be legal, and of course, look good too!
I found the first part below at Camping World. It's supposed to go into the sewer drain at the end of the drain hose, with a rubber washer thing to seal it into the sewer drain. But when I connected the hose to it the drain plugged up due to air locks in the hose. Then I realized that the grey part will screw directly onto the sink drain on the trailer. So I bought the red universal sewer connection and a length of slinky hose and voila! There's no way this puppy will plug with an air lock.

Phil, that's the exact part I had for my Scamp. The part came for the trailer from the factory that way.

I'm actually glad there's a requirement for sealing the sewer. More than once I've had to change sites because someone hooked up before me and it wasn't!

Yeah,
I agree Donna, I was feeling a little guilty about the open sewer drains with my little hose poking into them... I assume people realize that the Escape doesn't have a greywater tank, which is why I had to rig this setup.

I have one of those too. The Kit had a grey water arrangement much like a truck camper, but I use a blue boy or, when in a park, I use the thingy like yours.

I use the red one. California isnt the only place that requires it to be sealed have been a lot of private RV parks have that requirement in a number of different states.

I have to laugh at this, because I just came back from almost four weeks on the road in Texas and Arkansas. In several campgrounds, there was not even a cap on the sewer drain inlet when I pulled into the site !

That red fitting fits tight to a standard sewer opening, and I often use a little duct tape to secure it. Once I had to unseal it and install the rubber plug, not as good a seal, but it met what they thought was the rule.

Hi Phil,
We have a grey multi screw-in that fits any sewer and than the grey thing slips into that. I have a couple of drain hoses, one long and one short. Keith

Years ago we used an "Airstream Bucket" for our grey water.

Yup what you find as the norm in some states may not be what you find in other states - this winter I was surprised to find recycling was not the norm in most state parks in Nevada and even stranger to me was there where no recycling bins in a number of them in California as well. go figure.
