Campster drawers (or Compact...)

I'm pretty sure these are the originals. One got stuck (they don't slide evenly) so I took a close look at it. Neither of the two drawers remaining (I removed two for the microwave) have slides, although the drawer frame has a slide in the center. If there is a Campster or compact owner around, can you see if yours have slides in the center? I'm not sure what the missing piece would look like.

I also noticed the "decorative" (and I use the term loosely) front of the drawer is attached to an actual front of the box that forms the drawer- the whole thing is about 1 inch thick in front. It's the front piece that keeps the drawer from sliding too far into the cabinet, so it has to have something there. But it's heavy. Has anyone replaced these drawers with something lighter?

I'll post a picture in a sec.

Bobbie,

My campster has the center track for the drawer. You can get the track and the plastic piece at Home Depot or OSH. I will try to find a picture for you.

here's a photo. Don't know the website but the picture is good and looks just like mine.

Hmm- does your track look like mine? The plastic piece says it goes with a wood track. But I should be able to take the picture and measurements and go to Home Depot and find something. Sure would be nice if the drawers stayed where they belonged! (Although then they need latches so they won't slide out enroute.)

My track is wood. I had to replace mine and debated between the metal and wood track. The guide is plastic on both and the same shape. I don't know if the size is the same.

My tracks are in good condition so I hope I can find a guide to fit. Thanks, Teri.

That looks like the kind of slide used by Marillat in the 1970's.

The trailer was built in 1970 so that makes sense- will I be able to find a slide or do I need to replace the whole track? I think I could make something to work, though.

Also, any ideas on redoing the front (or maybe the whole drawer) to reduce weight? It's really heavy-duty but I don't think it needs to be.

I once found a cabinet shop which had a few of those cheap plastic slide parts, but I think a trip to Menard's to pick new hardware may be in order.

I found the slides and fixed them. Orchard Supply had them.

If the slides stick rub with a bar of soap. In most cases this gives just the lubrication you need for smoothly operating drawers! I use this trick at home all the time.
Happy Camping!
