Sorry had trouble with the pic!
It's in a 71 Trails west type trailer and i am presuming it's not a gravity furnace?
I don't know anything about heaters.
Thanks.

I agree with jim. It is a Catalytic heater. Not bad, but since it consumes cabin air, it should have a low Oxygen shutdown.

If it's a original 1971 heater I would be very careful and have it throughly checked out by a gas heater expert before even thinking about use.
Death is soooo permanent

It looks like a ThermX catalytic heater. They were made in France and very widely used back in the day...many are still in use. Since they have no moving parts, the main thing that can go wrong with them is dirt contamination/damage to the blanket on the face. If you try lighting it you'll know soon enough whether there's any such flaw present. There are no replacement parts available as far as I know... There should be instructions for lighting it on the face.

The main safety concern with such heaters is the possibility of low oxygen conditions if used without adequate air-replacement venting, usually about 100 square inches. Best to divide that between two points, one high and one low. It may or may not have the low-oxygen shutoff now required on such heaters- since Europeans started using them LONG before the U.S.A., it may.

I personally would have no trepidations about using the heater either way, as I'm perfectly confident that I will provide the required venting.

I think it's an early Olympian, based on on the twin circles on the screen.

Not the same model as I'm including here, I'm just capturing the O.

Thanks everyone for all the great info, this forum is amazing.
It is in a trailer I am looking at but I now have to persuade my husband that we 'need' 3 trailers!

Oh, ya, for sure, at least three! I will feel far less silly if you get four. There is a nice ring to the word fleet.

Yep, you save so much on insurance with fleet rates that you will want to add even more. Eventually the Ins. Co. will start paying you for your business.....

Looks like it was sold before I could get there/ have someone to check it out - that's why it's good to have a few trailers already so it's not as disappointing!!
