Looking at the condition of the front section of the frame I would be surprised if it was the original - perhaps the reason for the VIN number looking very much like a DIY job. Perhaps the front section of the frame has been replaced as it has been on many trailers of its age. Or did the PO take wire brush to it or sand it down and repaint it recently....

Would be interesting to see a photo of the actual tongue to see what type/age of couple it has on it.

Thanking everyone for all the input. I have also posted on a different site where I have been told scamp uses/used tube iron for frame, not channel(?) and this is channel. There have been questions about the floor, it is fiberglass. I have looked in the closet and not numbers or stickers.

Some seem to think it looks, like older Casita. I have been looking at those and on the older ones I have seen, rear of the wheel on 13 footers the bottom does not go down as far as in front of the wheel, like raised to not drag....this is not the case on this one just as close to the ground in front and behind the wheel, and closer to the ground by 3 or 4 inches through the doorway. I have sent an email to Casita just in case, but have not heard anything from the yet.

I am still confused about the Vin and Scamp camper vin history (E with 3-5 digits according to some chats) but Scamp told me all their numbers start with 1-S7, that they have never used that kind of numbering (again, going from the angle of just getting the frame or bottom half only identified). The person I emailed at Scamp also thought it may be a Burro (but they have vertical seam, not belly band) or a Casita.

Many people have also said to register as homemade, but the homemade registrations in TX you have to show a receipt for axle, say you are the maker or who did it for you and it only applies to trailer that will not hold people, travel trailers fall into a different category. Guess they have really cracked down.

I think I'm past the research stage and may just have to resign myself to just use temporary tags and use it only once or twice year.

I have at really enjoyed reading everyones replies and banter. Thank you.

Scamp started using the standarized 17 digit VIN some time in 1982. Their 17 digit VIN's start with 1S7. Prior to the 17 digit VIN their serial numbers started with 1E.

I know REALLY?

That shows how important good pictures are to help identify a particular trailer. The picture on the front page, cut off the back portion (in profile) and the Wisp has a definite flat back end. That would immediately discount round eggs like Boler, Scamp and Casita.

Whew. Now we hope Teresa has success in getting the details through local DMV.

Great, I now know its a WISP, I have looked at all posts on the site of WISPS thanks to ya'lls old forums and links. Thanks to that info I have emailed or direct messaged anyone who posted as owners to see if they had a s/n vin on theirs and their year and place of manufacture since these are all questions on the registration form.

Amazing to see other ones---I have probably looked at a thousand pictures over the past 2 weeks and NONE of them were a WISP!! (until now, thanks!) woo hoo

I have no idea how much time Carol. It doesn't really matter. It was one of those niggling-in-the-back-of-the-brain issues. Kinda like a tiny thorn stuck in my sock. With the hundreds of thousands of posts here on FiberglassRV, just searching for wide belly band and trolley top caused a brain overload. I just kept at it. NOW it's an orphan brand of trailer I'm likely to never forget I hope Teresa can satisfy DMV with the found information and will share with us her memory making trips.

I remember once you wrote that you "know where the bones are buried". You do! Great work.

Googling wisp (outside of this forum), I found another fgrv thread: 1979 Wisp Remodel
with pictures.

Otherwise there is so little info, it had to be a very short production run.
