I have a 1975 Lovebug with the original door handle that 'turns' to open. I want to replace it with something a bit more sturdy with a keylock. Im new to rebuilding any camper so any/all suggestions/ideas are very welcome.
Thanks.

I replaced the original door latch on my 2000 Scamp with the latch pictured below.

I had to drill a new hole, and also figure out how to cover the old hole, but the result was worth it. Pictures of the finished project will come later.

Dan, I've seen that handle and think it would work for me. But, is it keyed so it can be locked?

Someone posted recently about using an overhead garage door handle/lock. Said it was about the right size to fit the existing hole on the door.

The door latch pictured above does lock from the outside with a key.

Hi: Brian... A lot of Boler Owners have found that the Scamp door lock/handle replaces theirs as well, call Scamp 1-800-346-4962 and talk to their parts dept.

Nope, the plan is to install a flat, regular RV paddle door latch.... similar to the older style Boler Bargman. Notice I said "plan." I'll eventually do it, I've got all the instructions... it like a lot of things, it's just a matter of [b]time.

Me too!!

What Donna!!!! about 3 years now.

It wasn't last year at Oregon and I wasn't there in 2006. It was 2005 that we got all jazzed about putting one on.
I came close a few months later. What stopped me was the strike bar and then I was getting ready for my Alaska trip. I surely didn't want to have problems with the door on that trip. So I put it off and have not gotten back to it.

I suspect also that it's because I do have a door handle that works. The change is sort gingerbread although I like the inside lock better than what I have.

Yep, I think that's my lack of motivation. It's a "looks" thing, what I've got works. I'll do it someday... probably when I'm finally finished with school... like Summer of 2009!

FYI, this is what Joy and I are talking about... only mine is chrome: Trimark Door Lock

I think this is the door knob style everyone else is talking about: Trailer Lock (L-100)

My Scamp door had jiggled open several times on the road. The tongue is too small to hold the jamb. I installed a Stanley Lifetime hasp. It ain't real pretty but it functions perfectly. It uses a built in combination lock so no worry about everyone having a key. # 10x24 stainless FH bolts hold it all together. Cost about $9.00 plus bolts & washers.
Very secure except a thief (or I) could still get in by undoing the 2 hinge bolts. Keep secret.

I just ordered the Tirmark door lock from the rv place I go too. I was interested in the one that Dan put on ( if thats a Bargman) and he thought the parts wouldnt be around to much longer... ???
I will bring it home and wait to have it installed tho...

I just found the same lock that I'm using on line at http://www.go-rv.com/coast/do/catalog/page...amp;pageNum=192
It claims it is a Decker lock. The price is $59.95 plus shipping and taxes, which is about what I paid.

This site http://www.rvpartscenter.com/ProductDetail...amp;CategoryID=
lists the lock for $42.95 plus shipping and taxes. This site calls the lock a "Decker 1042 RV Door Lock by Bargman".

I just picked up my new doorhandle.. the "TriMark" in white.. Geeze it seems to be pretty heavy??? I am wondering now if its not to heavy for the Scamp door...
Joy.. is that what you have installed? Anyone??
