Hi,
We just got our new eggs -- we plunged in and bought two!
Well, neither of them has a spare tire mounted on them. I really like having a spare, and I was hoping that someone here could show me some pictures of how the spare tire mounts on their egg.
We have a 1973 13' Boler, and a 1979 Trillium 4500.
This is my first posting here, but I have to say I love the site! Thanks, everybody!
Jennifer

Well, Jennifer...., from an ex-'Pegger (St.Vital) to a real timer, I'll try n remember to pull my spare off and take some pics for you (and others). Ours is a very simple home made 'A' frame set up bolted to the frame on our 13' Trillium. It may take a day or two for me to post'em, so please remind me when I forget!!
....and, BTW to our site, it IS fun!!!

Hi Jennifer,
I went to a local RV dealer and for about $65.00 they sold me a spare tire kit. It comes complete with all the hardware to mount the spare on your 4" rear bumper. I removed the old HEAVEY original bracket and replaced it with this new, strong and lightweight carrier. It is perfect.
Let me know if you want the name of this RV dealer.

Harbour Freight has bolt on style for 10 bucks! You could attach that on the front.

The spare on Boler's and Scamps (and maybe others) is with a couple of bolts fastened through the fiberglass shell at the back.

That is really great! After you showed this, I found the same one at Princess Auto in Winnipeg, just have to get it on the trailer now. But the hard part of finding something is over, thanks!

Jenn, well I see a few days have passed and I finally got to take pictures of my home made spare tire mount for our Trillium. I don't know IF I can post all of them at once, so I MAY have to make a few 'replys'. All the metal involved only cost MAYBE $5 or $10 from a steel salvage yard plus a couple nutz n bolts and a spare tire tie down from the trunk of a 'salvaged' car in a bone yard. Total price MAYBE $15 too $20, so here goes.....

The two bolts in the rear through the fiber strong enough with out doing damage to the fiberglass with the weight of the wheel and tire? Thank you all.

I was curious about the same thing. Mine is mounted with three bolts. The exterior has thick paint and interior has ensolite so I can't tell if there's cracking.
There was some rot on the floor directly beneath the holes though. What have others done to weather seal these holes?

Hello again. I forgot! Welcome to the forum.
It will help if you update your profile and let us know what kind of trailer you have. I found some good information in this thread. Especially post #11 http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...c-36051-2.html
There are plenty of topics to be found using the search feature. Though I still couldn't find how most through shell tire mounts are weather sealed. Perhaps they were all glassed over as I read in one instance. Mine is an older model and does not have the plywood backing plate listed in the thread above. The bolts are all loose.
I have purchased some extra nuts and rubber washers. The nuts to prevent the tire from being compressed directly against the fiberglass. I read in one post this wasn't good but I wonder if it's better than having the tire just hanging from three bolts. No rear bumper on my trailer so no extra support there. I will also look for someone to make plate with the bolts attached that I can mount it on the inside for extra weight distribution. I saw that pictured here but couldn't find the thread.
edit: extra threads
