Cannot open back window in our U-Haul 1985 CT
We are new owners of our 13 foot U-haul CT and the back window will not open? Any ideas before my husband takes the window out ( I am afraid that is not a good idea)!!!!

Try some wd40. Can spray it in the drain holes and in the track. I had to do that when I got mine as it hadn't been used in years. The first time I opened mine it was stuck to the rubber that holds the screen in. So I had to reseat the screen after I got it open. It did take some elbow grease to get it open.

If the window turns out to be not useable a rear window from Scamp can be fitted in by modifying the opening. Our rear window was beyond repair, so that is what I did. How are the side windows, there may still be some new ones available.

I had the same problem with my UHaul when I got it. Let me caution you - don't try to pry it with a metal tool and if you pull hard enough on the aluminum handle, it will break off the glass.
As Bob said, use lots of WD40 or silicon spray and let it soak. I used a large suction cup handle to grab the glass so I could apply force to get it to move a little, then a lot and eventually loosen up.
Mine was packed up with dirt that gets tossed up from the road, so once you get it loose, keep the bottom U track well cleaned out and silicone sprayed. The U track may also be rusty if it has the metal stiffeners in it. The track can be replaced with readily available parts.

Sean said use the WD40, I can't take credit for that. Our window was so bad I had to replace it. The new window from Scamp cost $160 plus shipping. I had to widen the opening in the trailer wall about 1/2" on each side. And have you new owners read the thread about the NOS windows?

The previous owner of my U Haul found a window manufacture on the internet that made custom windows. She did not have to modify the opening at all they fit right in. so if you cant get it to open. I can see if I can find out where she bought the windows.

I found a couple places that would make custom windows, $300 and up, more like $500 or so for a rear window. That made the decision to buy the Scamp window real easy, and if something happens to it a replacement is readily available at a reasonable cost. I had asked the previous owner of your trailer Jason, where she got her windows, and the answer was "look on the internet". Maybe she'll give you a better answer.

OK here's the the place my PO got her windows.
Callen Camper Co.
125 S. Marshall Ave.
El Cajon, CA 92020
619-933-3851
When I called the PO she said it was in the paper work she gave me, and it was, stuck in side the stove manual. The windows she had replaced where the side ones they where $160 a piece. Going by that it looks like for $30 more dollars you could have a custom window and not have to modify the trailer for the scamp window.
But like Bob said the scamp ones are in stock and ready to ship!
I hope this helps!
Jason

That's a good price, I paid about that for a Scamp side window and had to modify that opening too, but make it smaller. But consider those new old stock windows turning up for $39 each, they are the deal of the century!! Those side windows you have now Jason, are they the clamp ring type or are they in rubber weatherstrip like the originals. Scamp side and rear windows both use a clamp ring. In all the window searches I did I never found Callen Camper. So our Uhaul has a Scamp rear and right side window, and I just installed a NOS window in the left side.

Bob I think they are clamp ring. Never looked at them that close. They are not leaking so I don't pay much attention to them.

Jason: if you haven't seen another Uhaul you wouldn't be familiar with the original window installation. They are mounted in a rubber weatherstrip like was used years ago on truck windshields. You're lucky that problem was taken care of by the previous owner!!

I have these in my tear drop and they never leak. I don't know why they ever stopped using them on all campers.

Donna......The guy that owns Lil' Bear (Grant) is great guy. I bought all the parts for the tear drop I built and still have from him.

I'm going to state the obvious which was not obvious to me when we tried to open the back sliding window on our brand new Scamp. There is a lock of sorts in the middle vertical frame of the window. It toggles in at the top and bottom. I never remember which position is unlocked but you need to unlock it before sliding the window. Even our new window has been difficult to slide. Good luck!
