Have ancient 12V hardwired First Alert CO detector in trailer. I put a bullet connector in the hot line because I cannot silence the random alarms with the reset button. From what I read, it is out of date and of no value whatsoever.
I would appreciate recommendations or testimonials for detectors which 1) reliably detect and indicate the presence of CO AND don't go off in the presence of a molecule of smoke or perfume, 2) have a high performance to cost ratio (work and are under 75$). I don't know if these criteria can be met easily and I don't intend to start at the 25$ level and do product testing on every one on the market.
I feel that the current 12V installation is too high on the bulkhead and too far from our heads when we sleep. I am pragmatic about source of power and can deal with AC and batt backup,
battery only, or 12VDC. A portable or "table model"
battery model may be best and quickest but I can drop in 12VDC pretty readily anywhere.
I am getting fed up with my habit of putting in additional 120VAC duplex receptacles (have five of these now and one is no longer used due to moving the TV wall bracket) all of which are in waist high locations or higher. I won't run cable for another when I know I will need a backup power source offgrid. It appears I have eliminated AC w/ batt backup but I'd still like to know about these if they are the most reliable, better built, longer lasting than others. TIA.
