CO detector wonky

12volt CO sniffer alarm annoying me. Had so much trouble resetting at Elk Neck St. Pk. in MD. last weekend that I cut the lead. Today I put a "bullet" type disconnect on it so that I can disable at will. Initially alarm went off several times and then settled down. There is no source of CO in operation. Is it true that blowing the dust out of the sensor mech may help? I'd like to have it at nite when the propane furnace is in operation if I can get rid of the random triggering. It is hardwired only; no battery backup. Do I need a new one? I can't believe the difference in price over a propane detector.

The directions do state to vac them out using the brush attachment on the vac every other moth or so.

Do yourself a great big favor and go purchase a new CO detector that runs on batteries and gives a numerical readout. Less than $30 at Sams's and other warehouse clubs.

I seccond this. For one thing you can move it to the best location. Also, these detectors do have a limited lifespan. Check the manufature date when you buy the new one and make sure it is fresh. The expire date should be on the unit so look for that. Older units may not have the dating. I think I paid $50 for mine at Ace for the most deluxe model.

Cheap fix, buy a new one rather than "trust" one that's had problems. I don't skimp on safety items....
