could it be curtains for my awning?

I've been wondering if anyone has tried using curtain material for an awning. It's light, can be waterproofed, and cheap. It would also match my Curtains! Any thoughts?

Lots of folks with vintage trailers have made awnings out of Indoor/outdoor fabrics such as the Sunbrella ones. They are acrylic so they dont fade & are mildew resistant. Great for providing shade but its not water proof, just water resistant so you will not get the same level of rain protection you would get from a heavier vinyl type awning.

One place a lot of vintage trailer folks use to have their awnings custom made is Marti's Awnings. Lots of photos of custom awnings on her website. She BTW does a GREAT job of sewing the awnings.

Carol sunbrella is water proof. My awning is made from it. People can treat any fabric but the uv's will eat it up in short time.

Derky they have a Marine line & a Sunbrella Plus line of materials that are as you say sold as somewhat waterproof but their literature for their home outdoor/indoor fabrics lists them as water resistant only which has been my experience with the ones I have used for outdoor cushions and trailer curtains etc. Your also correct that one can buy a spray and treat them to help with water proofing.
