Critique request of best folding bicycle that is battery powered
Considering trading in Schwinn human power pedaled for a folding battery powered bicycle.
Currently take off front wheel Schwinn and haul next to side of bed camper top.
Any leads on the BEST all around make and model of a folding battery bicycle?
Goal:
- Best folding battery bicycle to reduce bulk.
- Must hold a charge a long time.
- Be powerful enough for riding within and without campground and use on sidewalks to get to shopping close by.
- Don't need a motor scooter for use in road traffic.
Example of place this would come in handy is Grayton Beach, Santa Rosa Beach Panhandle of FL.
Also nearby Destin has bike paths mostly paved clear to Destin from Santa Rosa.

Track you? Of course not!
So when I opened this post, the ad for a Swagtron was already in the margin. Ads are annoying, but they do allow us to enjoy this forum for free. Five minutes ago, I'd never heard of a Swagtron.

Cute
Very cute lil item, Tom.
Looks like a kid would have a blast on it.
I think I wanna' 20 incher.
Hoping someone here has gotten a foldable.
Still hunting the best.
Long battery running and powerful enough to say do a whopping 20 mi. per hour.
These can get pricey up to $2,000.
I want to keep to a dull roar not more than say $1,200.
Saw a couple in FL in our campground that really were jamin' on theirs.

I'm going to be trying a Rad foldable this coming week and will let you know what I think. But I will have nothing to compare it to.

Bobbie you make an excellent point. Try one out in person.
Reason I got interested is the DH went to our local bike shop to get the brake cable fixed on my regular Schwinn. Salesman did the hey your DW would really like an eBike for camping.
Also saw this older couple that had their Bali brand for about 3 yrs and loved riding together.
I figure since it's closeby I ought to check it out at the bike shop. DH didn't catch what brand it was.
Advantage over ordering you get to test ride and have access to repairs when necessary. Downside of course is paying store front prices. For their unit they wanted $1,500.
Now in a perfect? world it would be neat to test drive one locally and then order cheaper yourself. Then when you need repairs go to the bike shop.
Let yall know how the story goes in my pursuit.

I should try out the RAD folding too. They are located a short distance from my trailer's home base location.

I am going to our local shop to see what they carry. They are on the pricey side according to the DH. The one they carry (DH didn't catch what brand) is about $1,500 retail.
As to Google they are a very evil bunch, no joke!
The big advantage to DuckDuckGo is they don't track your every movement like Google does and store all your info. so the Govt has access to it. Paranoid you say? Uh uh it's true.
I use several computer cleaners after I jump off the Internet or email. An amazing amount of crud gets put on it with just one trip.
CCleaner
Glary Utilities 5
Advanced System Cleaner
Do a restore point before using them the first time.
Then tell us just how much garbage and tracking you had on your drive.
Another advantage is DDG gets you to articles and sites the mmm mainstream pushers won't index. Much more effective and a great variety on DDG.

Try it out people!

It is a good idea to narrow down your choices by some features you might wish to have. Such as are you going to ride it off the pavement? Then you might want to have some suspension to cushion the ride and you might also want a fat tire bike for better traction.
Weight is also going to be an issue if you can't do heavy lifting. E bikes are not inherently lightweight. Things that can help out are an easy to remove battery and quick release front wheel. That allows you to remove some of the weight off the frame instead of trying to lift up the whole enchilada
20 inch wheels...those larger sizes are not all that essential if you are not going to be using pedal assist power very often or traveling long distances. For the average driving back and forth in an RV park or traveling to a local neighborhood grocery store you don't need the larger wheels.
Your request for the best all around folding with 20" wheels, a long battery life and lots of power is not compatible with your very limited budget price point of $1,200. You might have to look for a used E-Bike to achieve that very much below average price point for a decently made folding E-Bike.

The search engine that doesn't track you. Learn More.
We don’t store your
personal information. Ever.
Our privacy policy is simple: we don’t collect
or share any of your personal information.
Add DuckDuckGo to IE
After doing a restore point:
Delete off any other search engine from your browser.
Get rid of all traces of them on your drives.
Other search engines you can't trust... Yahoo, Bing, and the other big boys.
All shoot your Internet activities to agencies unknown.
They can potentially sell to identity thieves. No kidding, this is not a drill.
In this case paranoia is a good thing. I call it preventative, cautious, and wise.

Wow thanks for the very helpful review.
You are correct in what I have read so far.
Yes, these puppies are rather heavy ~ 50 lbs +
They aren't quite as compact as one would think.
I saw a customer review picture and it took quite a bit of him/her back van space.
Definitely will have to allocate enough truck bed (covered) space for it.
Not familiar with the RAD brand people are considering. Need to look that up.
I am going over some various models right now on Amazon (from the eBike review suggestions).
This one is on sale and from the manufacturer. After reading the other 4 reviews it seems to be the best all around so far. Reviewers are pleased with the customer support and ease of getting replacement parts.

Rad Power Bikes RadMini Review
https://electricbikereview.com/rad-power-bikes/radmini/
Summary
- A funky miniaturized folding fat tire bike with two cargo racks! Truly capable of sand and snow riding, LED lights guide and keep you safe, the bike offers assist and throttle drive modes
- Basic seven speed drivetrain from Shimano, plastic chain guide keeps things on track, metal derailleur guard protects the sensitive bits if the bike tips over to the right
- Nice 180 mm mechanical disc brakes with e-bike specific brake levers that cut power to the system when pulled, I like the integrated bell on the left lever and rubberized front edges for comfort
- The front rack turns as you steer the bike and if you aren't careful when parking, it can tip to the side and spill your gear out, no bungee or clasps to keep it from unfolding

I have a Magnum folding bike. It actually fits (folded) into the 13' Scamp with front bath! But these bikes weigh 60+ pounds. Still...
48v battery, great at holding a charge, 7 speed derailleur, 20" tires, seat shocks, etc. etc. Just the ticket for traveling and camping. I use the pedal-assist option on the very lowest setting just to take the pressure off my knees. It's a fun ride, for sure. Highly recommended.

This is the type of review we need.
Someone who already has one (or more) of these puppy(ies).
- How long have you had it?
- How did you purchase it? Locally or on the Web?
- Approximate cost? (if you choose to disclose only).
- Ever replaced your battery?
- Why did you pick the Magnum over other brands?
- Approximately does it hold a charge?
- Had to repair anything?
- Size of motor? Model?

A feature-packed folding electric bike with lots of accessories and multiple color options, great price point and warranty, available through dealers or the Magnum online store
Sturdy folding mechanisms with security locks emphasize safety, reflective tires and LED lights keep you seen in dark riding conditions, alloy chain guide and derailleur guard protect the drivetrain
Adjustable handlebar and seat height accommodate tall or short riders and the suspension fork and suspension seat post, while basic, make it comfortable to ride
At nearly 53 lbs it's heavy for a folding ebike, independent lights are more of a hassle and can be left on accidentally then run out, key must be left in to ride, battery is heavy and not hidden
