Dealing With The dreaded Litterbox

I travel everywhere with my Kat , the only drw back is his litter box .
i am thinking of putting in some kind of pet door and mounting his box outside. Any ideas ? what do you do?

...but it's the absolute truth. Years ago, when we had cats, we had one named Tuffy that, when the lid was up, would spread himself across the seat and pee in the commode. But the damn dumb cat would NEVER flush, no matter how much I got on his case. So much for the myth that cats are smart. Maybe yours is smarter and could be taught to use that new porta-pottie.

I had a freind in Mass that taught his kat Elvira to use the toilet . like wish Jim could not get the kat to flush . then one day his dog tonia pick up on him trying to teach the Kat . You got the rest the kat would use the potty and the dog loved to flush . almost happy ending poor jim kept geting awoken at 1 am 3 am 5 am by the sound of a flushing toilet. I lost track or jim and his circus now a day that be worth an entry in to Americas Funniest Home Videos .

I stayed in a 22' TT for a while, during remodeling. With the cat I considered putting the box in one of the outside access cargo areas, and cutting a hole for the cat. That way I could clean it from the outside. I also considered building some sort of 'box' that would mount on the outside of one of the windows. You could also put it under one of the couches, and cut a small hole. But in the end, I just dedicated one of the small, floor level cabinets to it. Left the door unlatched, and the cat could open it when he needed to. A covered catbox would help keep it cleaner. Don't know if any of this will apply to a Fiberglass trailer, but some ideas... You can buy small dog-doors at pet supply places, try upco.com or petedge.com.

We usually travel with our cat (and a poodle too). One little tip that makes life a bit less pungent is to pre-condition the animals diet a week before embarking with a low-cal high grade food and feed only that during the trip. Feeding is just once a day before our breakfast, i.e. animals first, people second. No snacks at any other time. We usually get an Iams product meant for older sedentary animals, but I doubt the brand makes much difference.

Then we use the non-scented litter and change it daily. We transfer the box from vehicle to trailer along with the cat. I actually think the cat is a easier traveling companion than the dog.

Hi Loren
Do you find that feeding your cat an older sedentary formula kills her/his energy level? We mistakenly picked up a bag of it instead of the normal adult formula and the change in our 3 year old cat was unbelievable. All she did was sleep, sleep and sleep. We were at the point of taking her to the vet as we thought there was something seriously wrong with her when we thought of the food. A day back on the regular food and she was back to normal.

There are litter boxes, you've probably seen them advertised on TV, that automatically rack the litter after the cat has gone. It is then deposited into a separate smell proof container. I've heard that these things do not smell at all. Pricey though!

No treats eeks !! well Ill try what the vet said. cottage cheese twice a day and no i mean no people food. Cottage cheeshis supose to make kitty less foul. I think ill start this week to see if it helps . No people food is going to be troble kitty Loves rubens as much as i do
and for chicken he put on a great feed me i am a poor starveing kitten act that is imposable to refuse.Guess i eat a lot of oatmeal
one thing kitty does not like lol. Im just Glad Mac travels great he finds a spot and will sleep most of the trip away. And i can put up with litter box till next rest stop , most of the time , hehe.This will be his first time camping. mac has already checked out the egg and his scratching post so far he is happy about it .

I was in PetSmart today and saw disposable litter boxes. They were small and unfolded and contained the litter. Just chuck it when necessary. Could be useful during the travel part.

Mac is about 9 to old for kitten food to old for senior food. He gets a little more senior food mix in with his food. Sleep ?i thought that was natural state lol sleep eat sleep poop sleep play and sleep and Wake up me at sun rise grrrr i need a dog
