determining trailer make

I'm looking at buying an egg trailer with no name or id tag on it. The title says Luv bug but the owner says it's a Scamp. The title says 13' but that is the length of the box. Vehicle ID is questionable, three letters followed by 1230. Does anyone have an idea how I might be able to figure out what it is and how old? Title says 95 but I'm not so sure. Didn't luv bug stop production about 1980?

Hi Tom. If the title says Love Bug, it's a Love Bug. BUT, if it's a Scamp, maybe you can use this info from the VIN to determine it's actual age: Scamp VIN decoding

Here's a bunch of info about the Love Bug: Fiberglass RV - Love Bug Trailers Use the scroll bar on the left to get to the threads.

I'll check it out. No ID plate but i did not look for the stamp on the frame. It has a recessed pull handle on the door exterior. Scamp says they never made a latch like that. The lock is broken and not sure about getting a replacement latch or if the lock can be replaced. Thanks

Love Bug used the Bargman L-400 Lockset. They are very, very scarce. You may be a able to get a kit on eBay for just the lock portion, but be prepared to spend some coin. There ARE new alternatives, but requires a bit of fiberglass work. If fact, we're talking about this exact same thing here: 1977 Boler Door Handle Replacement

BTW: Scamp never manufactured with a paddle handle lockset.

I wouldn't consider a broken lock to be a deal breaker, if everything else about the trailer is what you're looking for.

Best of luck

The older Scamp ID's (before the 17 digit VIN) started with E followed buy numbers. They were metal stamped on top of the the RH (I think) frame rail just behind the coupler.
