Dometic 2190 DC/LPG

Forgive me if I am being thick here, but I'm trying to get my head wrapped around the 1985 U-Haul 16' VT I just bought.

The fridge is a Dometic RM2190 DC/LPG. For electrical mode, is this unit soley a 12v appliance, and if so, should it be able to be run off 12v from the converter when the rig is plugged into 110v?

Thanks!

That refrigerator draws 10 amps, so you need to be sure the converter can supply that much, plus a little for other things in the trailer. The output may be stamped on the outside of the case. Otherwise it will draw down your battery.

Aha. I see that the converter is only rated for outputting 3.2 amps, so I assume that this Fridge was installed after manufacture. The PDF parts manual only lists an icebox, but was this a CT feature, where the VT's might have had refrigerators?

Would installing a larger converter be dangerous? Quadrupling the amperage in the wiring harness is probably not a good thing.

Thanks Thomas!

Are you sure the output is only 3 amps or is that the input?

You can install a larger converter, just upgauge the wire to the refrigerator to at least AWG 10.

Duh, again. It's rated for 20amps output, not 3.2. But it's not working on the DC that I can tell. I'm going to fire up the LP and check that function. Thanks.

Make sure you have power to the refrigerator. It may have an inline fuse. You can use a test light or a multimeter to confirm. When it is operating on DC or gas the refrigerant line should get very hot to the touch - over 200 degrees F.
