I have an Escort model "Mini-15" 3 way fridge in my Boler. The operation is from outside the trailer, in the lower vent.

Assuming that you have the same type of fridge, if your fridge is not installed in a trailer, there should be a nameplate and operating instructions on the back of the fridge at the bottom.

It has two thermostats: one for gas operation and one for the two electrical circuits (110V and 12V). It has a two way, center off switch for the electrical.

I reprinted the instructions on the nameplate for my own use. Here they are:

[b]ESCORT MINI-15 Fridge/Cooler – Gas operation instructions

  • Electric switch must be in the “Off” position.
  • Open gas valve. (on right gas at gas line)
  • Press red button on safety valve and hold for 10 – 15 seconds (this is to clear air from the gas line).
  • Light match. Press red button again and apply flame to burner. Keep red button depressed for 30 seconds or until burner remains lit after releasing.
Remarks: The safety valve will automatically shut off the gas supply should the flame be extinguished for any reason.

When using standard propane cylinders a regulator reducing pressure to 11 inches W.C. must be fitted.

To run on electric, you would turn the gas off, then simply flip the switch the type of electricity you are using.

Hope that helps,
Rick G

Hello. I have the same fridge in the 1974 Boler I just bought. When I open the lower panel
I see the same instructions but do not see a Red button and at this point am not sure where I would light the burner. I am wondering if I should consult an RV technician to look at so I can use the propane option.
Thanks for any comments or thoughts
Carol

Hi Carol,
I looked for the Escort manual in the document center, hoping to find some pictures for you, but I don't see one. Many fridges have similar parts, chances are that if you go through a few manuals you will see one that is close to yours. You can start here:
Fiberglass RV - Document Center - Refrigerators
It is cheaper than an RV tech. Though that is not a bad idea, that way you will know your fridge and propane are all OK from an expert.

When we first got our boler, we had all the lines changed with all the equipment tested and fixed if necessary. The gentleman would not let us leave until we could both start and turn off everything. Propane was all they do.

For those in ON, it was Mark from Panda Propane near Bradford. Expensive (not more than a car mechanic) but highly recommended.

Great idea Roy. I believe that when ever a used trailer is purchased the purchaser should do this, have the propane system inspected and tested. I'm very allergic to large loud noises.
