Door gap

Now that I have begun to tear my egg apart, I seem to see EVERY little thing I think I need to fix .
My door has quite a gap and as I understand from many posts, this is not unusual. I was wondering tho...is this the way most hinges are on the rest of your eggs? Seems to me it might be necessary (for strength purposes), but isn't this why the door is not flush on the hinge side? I appreciate any responses.

Would not removing it cause the door to be closer to the opening?

Yeah that spacer is very suspect..... Also, the original little brass ball (or what ever it is called-factory installed--) is not there, and if my dim memory is correct, there was a spring involved somehow-- even tho my scamp doesn't have any. Someone has tried to make the door fit better (and not succeeded) at some time.... I suspect that the spacer was put in because when the ball and spring were removed, there was a bind in the hinge, and that was the "quick fix" When I was trying to realign my door, I had the pins too tight and broke a hinge... Yes you have the wrong spacer. I would call or order on line through Scamp the the correct spacer its brass . You should just replace the spacers,bolts and nuts that hold both doors. I think there is also a spring that is in that assembly also.

Okay, maybe I didn't expalin this right although I understand part of what I need. What concerns me is that the door doesn't run flush with the shell. Is the hinge(shell part) too long, or is the spacer too much, and do I dare remove it?

I would say the spacer was put in when PO removed the ball and spring stuff, and found that he had a bind in the hinge. And then added the shim to overcome the binding.... I would go back to original hinge hardware and see if it works properly. Larry
