Doorway Floor Issue..

I noticed when I step into the Scamp the floor drops/separates from the wall about a 1/4 inch. Is this a frame issue?

Maybe it's my weight issue

I don't have a Scamp, but from what I understand about their construction, the floor consists of OSB connected to the fiberglass sidewalls at the edges. I think that there are a few inches between sidewall and frame.

It seems more likely to me that the wood floor may have separated just at the sidewall, perhaps due to water intrusion?

Crawling under the trailer and taking a look sounds in order...

Francesca

You're welcome...

And FYI- there's a pretty good description of Scamp floor attachment method, with pics, at this link.

Good luck!

On some of the older Scamps there is no support under the floor at the doorway. The floor spans between two metal brackets that extend from the frame to the lower door opening. These two metal brackets have lips on them to catch the floor. At the edge there is a U shaped threshold to help support the outer edge of the floor.
Just yesterday I noticed on a 2005 S-13, it looks like they added a piece of 1" or 1.5" angle Iron to help support the floor at the door which spans the between the metal walkway brackets. Check to see if yours has this bracket, if not there it is not hard to add the angle support.

Picture of frame and doorway support. The picture came from this site. I have seen some older trailers without the outer angle iron support. Check for rust or bad welds in that area.

Thanks Eddie! That's a huge relief on my mind.. I was picturing I needed to take the body off the frame & re-do everything. I think I'm going to bring it by a local weld shop & have the put in a support.

Barry, just make sure they know how to weld around fiberglassRV... including the resin coated floor. I know of TWO trailers that were lost to fires from welding...
