Drilling out rivets? Use this

I had to drill out the rivets on my water heater tank to install a new tank. I used a countersink bit

1/2" bit
Worked perfect on the aluminum rivets. No guessing what size drill bit to use. Drill slow until you see the rivet flange start to spin then you know your done.

What size countersink Kevin? I'm going to Home Depot today and I DO have some rivets to drill out and replace in advance of the next camping trip.

Inquiring minds want to know.

It's so easy to drill out a rivet, you won't believe it.

A countersink bit does work great, as Kevin says. I used one about 10 days ago to remove the old electrical cord access plate when I changed it out for using a removable cord.

Great tip. I will pick up a couple more. For some reason they keep disappearing from my tool box.
