Duo therm furnace problems

Hi all,

I am freezing my rear off right now and have drained 3 lighters , (the long kind,) trying to light it.

It's a new propane tank. The last one only lasted 3 overnights.

It is very windy here, (danger wind advisory.)

I had to put some aluminum foil over the outside grate just to knock the wind down enough to keep the lighter flames lit.

It was a very cold night last night and I see a repeat tonight.

Think I'd move the trailer so the wind wasn't blowing into the furnace!

Do you have a stove? If so, light it for a few minutes to make sure yo have purged all the air from the gas lines.

Thanks. I should've mentioned that I did that. Stove works fine. Still can't get furnace lit. I'm using a Mr heater buddy for now but can't sleep with it on.

p.s. since the furnace doesn't light I turned off the outside tank.

You say it doesn't light, need some more info. Does the pilot light but not stay on = thurmocoupler. Not sure of what heater you have but if the pilot is not lighting is there possibly a LP inline shut off valve upstream ? Might give Randy a call for info .

I experienced a similar condition last year, but with my charcoal.

Where I buy my parts for maintenance of our caravan, the technician explained to me ...

The new propane tanks are rendered very safe.
Is, that when there is a very rapid gas outlet there is a valve within the reservoir that partially blocks the gas outlet to prevent a disaster in case a hose breaks.

For my charcoal gas, there is 10 feet of pipe, between the latter and the tank.

He explained that the new tank, open the valve in two stages.

Open it a little, we can hear the sound of the gas that is spreading in the system.
After some seconds, the valve can be opened to the maximum ...

We had this condition, especially because of the charcoal hose is connected directly to the tank and the regulator is attached to the charcoal ...

As the regulator for the trailer is located near the tank, I do not think you would have this condition, unless it is defective and lets too much gas ...?

If the stove is getting gas and the pilot on the furnace does not stay lit , the thermocouple is either defective or positioned too far from the flame , and due to turbulence from the wind is not getting hot enough to activate the valve. You could try cleaning the thermocouple with steel wool or sand paper and positioning it closer to the flame .

Check to make sure you do not have water in the burn chamber.

Initially when I got it to work it was after Randy Bishops gracious advice on the phone, (while I was travelling.) I think he even called back a time or two, or texted, to make sure I was okay.

Since then my phone did a reset and I lost all phone numbers. I'd also driven a lot more miles and maybe jiggled something loose.

Right now, I am good. I have power via shoreline and am using my electric heater, (not cold.) Turns out that the place I am staying is actually better to use electric heat since the other RVers here say I'll burn up the propane regularly and it isn't really cost effective like that. So, this gives me time to fix whatever I may have jiggled or wrongled in the furnace since it last worked.

The trailer is awesome. While I was stopped in Arizona a person came over with his family and friends to say he used to have one and that he loved how spacious they are.

It is really very nice. However, I arrived at the RV lot when they were closed for two days and there was a two day winter storm chill!

Its nice and toasty now.

Thank you for the trouble shooting thoughts that I can look into for fixing.
