Escape hatch plastic cover removal?

2002 13' Deluxe. After deflating tires to 15# I could get the Scamp in the garage if I could remove the plastic bubble on the escape hatch (darn things peaks like the pyramids). In kind of a hurry. Needs to go to storage if I can't remove that lid. Looks like the fantastic lid removes pretty easily. Thanks.

I just replaced an escape hatch cover. You have to take the drift pin out the regulator. Then the lid just slides off. If you are going to make a habit of removing the escape hatch you might replace the drift pin with a bolt and nylock nut.

What is the "drift pin"?

The gear box that you crank the vent open is the regulator. The long arm that goes up to the hatch cover uses a drift pin as a pivot point. The pin is pressed in, It's best to press it out. It can be driven out but the housing is cast and you could break it if you are not careful driving it out.
With standard vents the two screws that hold the regulator in place can be taken out and you can separate the arm from the lid but that did not work with my escape hatch.

Thanks Eddie. I see the pin. Darkness is descending on never-never land so I'll go at it in the a.m. I'll try the screw approach too..but since I see the pin that's probably the ticket. When you say "press" it out instead of "drive" it out. What's the difference. Sorry, I was a Liberal Arts major. J
