Fiberstream AC wiring.

The specs for our "new"/"old" Fiberstream said it was wired for A/C. Wanting to install a new fan/vent in the old existing vent opening. Is the A/C wiring in that little electrical box above the Refrigerator? Or is there actual wiring in the vent opening? Had this little guy for several years but health has keep us from working on it. Finally getting to it, What a interesting experience!! Thanks to everyone who has posted links here as many of them have really helped and saved us lots of time and cussing...

The "little box above the refrigerator" should be a junction box with a pair of wires for a 110v circuit. If there is wiring to the vent opening it probably comes from this box, then through the cabinet to the vent opening. If you had a powered fan then the wires should be visible. If they are not it is simple to run from the junction box to the vent.

Hope this helps - Our Fiber Stream has A/C and that is how the wires are routed to the vent opening.

If you are installing a new vent/fan in the place of the old Vent, the new fan in the vent is 12 volt dc and the wiring in the junction box for the A/C is 120 volt ac. That wire will not work for your fan installation, it will need a 12 volt power supply wire ran to the vent/fan.

The electrical Box inside the top of the pantry cabinet above the Refrigerator is for a 110 volt AC outlet to plug in a roof mounted Air Conditioner.

I have a Fantastic-Fan in the roof vent at the center of my Fiber Stream. The 12 volt DC wiring was tapped off of the wall lamp on the living room side of the wall next to the stove/oven.

Since I do not have any kind of an interior wall/ceiling covering, they used gray plastic water line as conduit to bridge between the end of the wall and the frame around the vent opening. If your Fiber Stream is 1977-1979, it may look like mine. If it is 1980-1986 you may have thin foam insulation under a ceiling panel which may conceal the 12 volt wires. Remove your vent's interior garnish and look around the wood frame for a hole containing the wires.

Good point. We don't have a fan..... Makes sense that they are 12v, Doh!

It would be possible to wire a 110v outlet and use a 12v wall wart to run the fan in the vent. That would also let you put a microwave in that cabinet (we did).

Or, on the inside of the cabinet under or above the fridge there will be a 12v pair going into the wall light over the passenger side couch. One could put in a small box and tap that circuit. Or, Like Frederick said, go off the Kitchen side light..

Nice pictures, Frederick. Tried to show ours but the foam and white paint on the ceiling hide the conduit...
