I have a crack on the interior plastic of my Dometic RM 2411 fridge.
Does anyone have any advise on how to fix it without making it look unsightly.
I am concerned about possible Carbon Monoxide leakage when operating.

Cheryl,

If you are referring to the interior panel there is no danger of monoxide poisoning, there is an issue with the urethane behind it acquiring mold growth or swelling depending on the era it was made...the fix is to go to the hardware supply and get Locktite 5 min 2 part epoxy. Lift the crack a bit and work in the product after mixing, when set up lightly sand with 150 grit.

Wear disposable nitril gloves, (The epoxy cleans up with Acetone [b]BUT do not get Acetone on the plastic, IT WILL DISOLVE IT.)

Sand the plastic and then seal it with silicone caulking. This is the only time you will ever hear me talk about trailers and silicone. If you wet your finger and keep it wet you can use it to smooth the silicone out to make a very smooth bead.

JB Weld will fix it just fine. If the plastic breaks again... it won't break where you've made the fix. Since it's INSIDE the refrigerator, I wouldn't worry as much about looks as a good repair. If you use anything with a silicone base first and it doesn't work, you'll have a really, really hard time getting any other product to stick. Silicone is nasty that way.

Agreed, Donna. I would never use silicone. You don't know that you won't have to work on it again, and if you've used silicone it will be a nightmare to remove all the residual oils. They work their way into stuff and do NOT like to come out. In fact, on fiberglass boats, we sometimes have to literally shave off the gelcoat in order to get rid of the stuff.

At least I held off until this morning!

I would stop-drill the ends of the crack and cover it with white vinyl tape.

What caused the crack?
