Fridge Fix

The door on our refrigerator in our 98 Scamp has always been loose. Turns out the bottom hinge had cracked. If you look at the new hinge, the place the old one fractured was right below that top screw. Dometic was great, but their shipping charges are outrageous. 25 bucks... More than the parts!

But cheaper than a new unit!

Hi: fusedlight... We had the spring clip that holds tension & the door shut, break while in Myrtle Beach. Camping world had a new complete handle and thank God no S/H required. The handle was $35. The important clip is smaller than a paper clip too!!!

It took me a while to diagnose this one. The door had to be sitting Just So for me to see the fracture in the casting. When the door was closed, the fracture was nearly invisible. In our usual "belts and suspenders" approach to the Scamp we're going to put a tensioning strap across the front of the door to stop any vibrations whilst on the road. Velcro is our friend.

And... I just checked the temperature inside the box and it's colder than it's ever been. Guess that's what happens when the door actually seals, eh?

try to keep heavy stuff off door while in motion, that also will save you from future breaks.

Is it a Dometic? What's it look like? If it has a control panel in front, then it's probably a gas/electric combo. Pictures?

It also has styrofoam around the back of it but I can't tell if there is a plug

Yea, it is just an icebox. One creative member here added thick Styrofoam type insulation to all sides of the icebox to make it super insulated.
