Furnace alternative?

This may be a little bit expensive, but it would be a cozy option. There is something to be said for fireplace heat:

Dickinson Newport Propane Boat Heater / Fireplace

Thoughts?

I had one in my previous boat. Would I trade my Scamp furnace for one? No. You're right, nothing like a cheery glow from flickering flames but there's a couple of negatives. First, the fan doesn't do as good a job at circulating the air as a furnace does and more importantly, the unit can get very hot. In the confined space of an egg that could result in a burn or something close by getting too hot.

This is a fair concern. I wonder if an appropriate guard could be put around the furnace to prevent burn risk. The manufacturer does offer guards for the exhaust flue.

Here is the manufacturer's link:

Floor space would be my first concern, then heat shielding, then venting (a hole in the roof?)

Cute, but, IMHO, of somewhat limited value in a FGRV.
+ Points:
Looks neat, like a mini fireplace
Will cook you out of the rig in short order
- Points
Requires a significant amount of dedicated space
Manual lighting with no automatic operation at night
Requires a big hole for a hot vent pipe
Heat output is 5,500 - 7,500 BTU, a lot for a small RV.
Expensive.....

I'm Out.....

If you're looking for something small that gives a look of ambiance, see this thread: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...mmy-44647.html

Don't let the thread title scare you off... truly.
