Generator exhaust concern on trailer tongue.

I want to mount my Honda EU2000i generator on the tongue of my trailer for occasional use but am concerned about the exhaust gases. Should I make some type of add on exhaust stack to send the exhaust gases up and over the trailer?
Whats your opinion?

I'd also be leery of having a generator so close to the propane.

I would be a little more concerned about mounting it beside the propane tank. I don't know about that. Hmmmmmmnn

Just read the Honda Manual.... I think it sez to position the generator no closer than 50 feet from the trailer or something like that.

But what would they know?????

O.K. for transport, but I think you'll want to remove it for use regardless of any fancy exhaust-pipe mod.

Don't forget that Honda's vaunted "65db noise level" is measured at least twenty-five feet from the source....that close and on the tongue, the noise/vibration will drive you crazy.

I like your setup! Do you cover it up when not in use? I am sure you dont leave the window open above it while in use so no big deal. Also I am sure you go to sleep while in use so no big deal.
But I think I would make a pipe and that is only if you use it while you sleep just in case to take the exhaust up over the roof. Most campers have gas tanks next to the gen and I see no problem. They are both grounded.

I would advise you to use your own judgement.

My experience is that I had our Yamaha 3000 mounted on the tongue of our first Oliver and it will be mounted on the tongue of our new Oliver. At 165 lbs it didn't move for 6 years. I ran it there for hours and never got a whiff of exhaust. Yes, I know CO is odorless but the other gases are not. Anyway, everybody has a CO detector, right?

It sat right beside 2 x 20 lb propane tanks and will sit beside 2 x 30 lb tanks from here on. The tanks, however, are enclosed within the fiberglass compartment made for them.

At less than 60db, I can hardly hear the generator running from the inside of the trailer and do not feel any vibration. I toyed with the idea of ducting the exhaust away from the trailer but found that I didn't need to.

I don't think this setup is very different from running in sitting on the tailgate of a pickup.

Think of all the motorhomes for decades with the generator exhaust pointing right out the side.

Yep, just maybe that's why those 3600 RPM generators were designed and specified to be used in metal generator enclosures and were not specified to be used no less than 50 feet away from an RV.

And most of those were so noisy that no one, especially the guy next door, could sleep with them running and they got turned off at night..

Looks like that pipe (exhaust) is within the 50 ft law.
Not like the Honda is in the camper. I think the mount is in a good location. I would cover it up when not in use and could always be moved while in use if it makes you sleep better.

Only how I would position my tank and generator.
I have a better theft protection idea for the generator if I mount it on the tongue.
I would only run the generator when the wife uses the microwave.
NEVER NEVER when I sleep.
I plane on making a water proof box, out of a fiberglass shower stall for the generator and the propane tank.
I will have to think about this some more.

I don't know where the O.P. is sleeping, but at least 90% of the places I stay do not allow running generators at night.

Kevin. I have the Yamaha 2000 and it heats up pretty good while running for some time.
I too am looking for away to have it mounted and safe but yet be able to run it has needed and under cover. Let me know what you come up with.

Also Kevin, when you make your box you can plug a 12 volt dc fan to the dc outlet to get air flow moving thru. That is if you dont use the dc outlet. Then you can run it while under cover and locked up. Keep it plugged in so when you start your Honda it will turn on.
