gray H2O tank repair

The drainage tube that extends form my gray water tank (for connecting and dumping purposes) has broken off (some prior off-road travels). Now, I just have a gaping hole in the gray water tank on the underside of my Scamp 13 .

Could/should I repair this (if so, please share some ideas) or do I need to replace the whole thing?

Hi is the whole dump valve broken off the tank? if so I would probobly buy a new tank and valve assembly from scamp, you have 2 straps holding it up, plus a hose or two going in the top, its a cheap very lightweight product for its size, Paul Smith Orlando fl.

Yeah, the whole dump tube/valve is history. I had no luck patching the initial crack (where the dump tube meets the body of the tank). THis seems like a weak point subject to alot of torque. Don't think that I would replace with the same, so looking for alternatives of other gray tank/dump valve designs.

Have you tried to weld it...with a plastic welding gun? I'm talking about the tank. Harbor Freight Plastic Welder. I've never used one, but it seems to me there was a discussion at one time...maybe pre-hack

The dump valve assembly is just a standard, off-the-shelf at an RV supply store. Basically, it's just glued in, using something like JB-Weld . If you could cut that off and replace it, after fixing the tank...you'll be money ahead. I see from the 2005 Scamp parts list, they want $140, for a gray water tank and fittings.

Fittings can also be "spin welded" to the tank, in addition to welded with the type of tool which Donna linked. There's a nice description of plastic welding alternatives in the Wikipedia page for Plastic welding. Yes, Donna, I remember the plastic welding discussion too, in which a forum member reported doing a tank repair this way; I have not done it myself.

I have seen a Boler B1700RGH with a stainless steel fresh water tank; the fresh water tank is the same size as the grey water tank, and similar in design, but of course with different fittings. It seemed like an expensive option, but the owner said he happened to know someone who did stainless steel fabrication cheaply.
