Need help - hatch cover is broken on our 1984 Scamp 13' trailer that we are restoring. Also crank that goes through the screen is gone! Where can I get a new (or used) hatch cover and possibly the crank mechanism? Size looks to be about 17"X24" on the cover - bigger than most available as aftermarket. With the fire at Scamp factory, they cannot offer any spare parts for months and we need a way to make the rain stay outside. Any advice or someone have a hatch cover for sale? Thanks - Jeff in Upstate, NY

Another thought would be an RV Salvage company. The link is for the self-proclaimed largest outfit in the country.

Your best bet is to call Scamp and see if they can tell you who the supplier is and get the whole hatch, and roof hole, etc as a single unit and rivet the new one in. Scamp didn't sell the hardware with a blank replacement cover, so it might be best to replace it as a unit.

I think this hatch is referred to as 14 x 22 escape hatch if you are trying various suppliers, but the actual measurement seems to be 14 1/2" x 21 1/2" and it may be a Ventline.

I don't know the standard points from which the measurements are taken. One way to find out is measue a standard 14 x 14 hatch on another RV (or even call Fantastic Vent and ask how it's done).

I got the following hits on Yahoo with "rv escape vent 14 21":

Ditto on what Pete said about calling Scamp...first. Don't remember if it was someone on YahooScampers or our own topic Scamp Factory Fire that said the Parts Department is still up and running. At anyrate, they can use the $$ support of the fiberglass community.

Jeff whatever you find out, and wherever you end up purchasing the necessary parts, please report back on your findings. There are many of us that will need to replace (at least part of) the escape hatch over time.

The plastic cover on our 1982 Scamp's hatch was cracked so last year we ordered a replacement hatch from the Scamp parts department. The replacement was a little larger (a good thing) and we are very pleased with it. I trimmed it out on the inside with a strip of oak trim and it looks very nice.

Jeff, did you ever get a replacement cover? If so, where did you find it? We have the same sized roof hatch with missing vent cover.

Thanks!
