Once you place the new vent in place put masking tape around the perimeter but not under the vent. After you rivet, the squeezed out butyl will be over the tape. In the cool of the morning cut the squeezed out butyl close to the vent and peel the tape for a clean line and no sticky mess.

Oh thank you Stevebaz.
I have a small spot to scrape again in the morning. Then a couple washes with Dawn dish soap and there are scew holes from the a/c days to patch with FG (blushing I'm a FG virgin) before the installation takes place.

I wonder though - when unpacking the new escape hatch it looks like there is about a one inch gap between the vent and trim.....? How is this handled? Is there a video I can watch?

Way to go! I'm cleaning up our UHaul VT for our trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone starting Saturday. We were on the Pine Ridge reservation south of Rapid City working about a month ago and now the next trip west. Lots of driving!

Congratulations! I know it was a great feeling the day I did not have a big open hole in the roof of my Scamp!
