HELP , want to mount TV in Trillium above sink

Hello everyone

I would like to install that small TV inside my Trillium. I was wondering if anybody out there have any ideas. I would like to put it above the sink which seems to be the perfect spot for it but I am unsure as to how to mount it because I would have to drill holes which would probably go through the shell of the trailer. This is the spot which works best for us. I know there are Probably other places in the trailer where it could be mounted but this is really where we want to put it. I thought of maybe using double-sided tape or perhaps some heavy-duty epoxy to mount the TV bracket but I'm not sure if this would work has anybody out there tried it ?

If you use the search option on this forum you will find lots of threads and photos as to how people have mounted their TV's. On the search drop down use the bottom google option for best results.

To get you started there is a thread called TV Ceiling mount that has some links to older posts as well in it.

On the 2 Trilliiums that I have had there were cabinets above the sink that you could easily hang a TV from but the TV would be in the way of the sink,I would think?

Maybe a pic of the spot you have in mind will help us suggest other options for the space?

On mine I mounted a TV on the rear side of the closet on a swiveling arm so I could swivel it around to be viewed from anywhere in the trailer or push it flat against the closet wall fro storage out of the way.

When I mounted a 15 pound water holder above my sink, I put in a stout piece of oak 1x2 as its support. I cut it to the height as measured between the counter and the cabinet. It's attached to the cupboard above it by means of a shelf bracket bolted through the cupboard "floor". The bottom of the leg is just wedged. No holes in the outer wall this way, and it's very strong.

You might do something similar for a tv shelf, but with two legs of course.

How about mounting one of these to the bottom of the cabinet over the sink?

Ed, I will have to look in to maybe a store that sells TVs and see if they have a bracket with swivel that comes around that far.

That TV does not have cable capabilities directly which is why Fred added that you will need a tuner with it.
Any cheap DTV tuner box with composite Video and audio outputs will work for that.

Should be able to swing the TV around a corner like I did.


But,will the TV be right on top of the sink if you mount it there under the cabinet?

It has built-in lights to replace the light you have to eliminate. Worth it to invest in a separate DTV tuner box with composite Video and audio outputs.

Sounds great Fred but (This is embarrassing), I have no idea what a TUNER looks like.
I have an old 13" tube TV that I carry with me now and it sits clumsily on the sink cover but it DOES have a cable hook up so I can hook up to cable when I am at a campground that has it.
Does a tuner make the TV cable ready?
If the TV hangs from the upper shelf where does the tuner go?

   DTV Tuners & Converter Boxes

   You must make the front photo-sensor accessible while viewing TV for the remote to work.
   I use an RCA DTA-800 in the Fiber Stream.
   I'm sure that Ed can suggest 12 volt ones in addition.

That wall is a double wall, the shell of the trailer is about 1" behind. Wires run in that space. You could probably rivet something there with no problem. I would take the TV down when traveling though.

I would hang one from the shelf above if sticking it there as you can put a backing plate in that way to reinforce the mounting surface and get you hands in there to make sure the bolts get tight.

Then you can use a flip down mount and still get the TV out of the way of the sink if needed.
I rarely use my sink either but the Coffee Maker has to sit somewhere!

I also think I would either just hang a regular TV there which will be much more simple and inexpensive or if going with a Monitor like Fred links to and an external tuner I would mount the tuner where the IR signal can be directly seen by the Tuner.

You can certainly repeat the IR through any solid door you want but it hardly seems worth the expense or effort in this application to me.

I would even say to try and find a 12vdc TV so you can watch it while not connected to shore power which should make it even more useful.

There a 15" 12vdc TVs out now for about $100.00 that would be ideal in this Trill I think and I have 3 of them that I use all the time.

Vizio and Insignia among others make 19" and 23" sets that also run on 12vdc if you want bigger,and who doesn't?!

This looks just like mine and if I am correct, the wall behind the sink is flarred oout and has about 1 and 1/2 inch clearance before you go through the outside wall. If yours is the same ,you can being careful mark your TV mount and drill your holes ,then use short butterfly nut and bolt and mount it that way, or if you do not want to drill, you can also cut a nice piece of 3/4 inch oak plywood to fit the mount and use contart cement or appoxie to mount to the wall and once dry and firm, screw the mount to the plywood.I mounted mine in the corner between the back window and the side window, there is wood there on the sides of both windows that you can screw to, and you can see the tv in the double bed at the back and where your son has his bunk bed, we removed all that and made two seats on each side and a round table in the middle and sitting there in the evening on rainy nights ,we can see the TV without any problem.Hope this helps you out and gives you another option.Ours has been mounted for 4 years now and we travelled across Canada last year and all through the Rockies every other year, all good.

TIP: I always take the flat screen off of the mount (usually by removing the one long pivot bolt) and store it on the bed when travelling. Takes less than a minute and it saves breaking the mount or pulling out any mounting screws while underway.

David, I like idea of the rivets but I have honestly never done anything with rivets before .
is there a machine used to do it ?
do I drill shallow holes and put rivets in ?
