Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can tell me what is the purpose of this red switch in our U-Haul. It is located on the cabinet above the sink. When the U-haul is plugged into electricity the switch lights up when in the down position. Without electricity it does not light up, however it does make the other lights become dimmer when in the down position. Our main question is - does it need to be in a certain position when we are charging the battery?

Thanks,
Bridget

Ok, so we might have an idea, now. Just as I was posting my question my husband called me out as there was suddenly a burning oil smell in the U-Haul. We finally found what we think was a pump to draw water up to the sink that was melted and hot. We had been cleaning out the water tank and there was water around the now melted item, and I think the switch was for the pump - which we had inadvertently left on. Never even knew it was there!

The switch appears to be an aftermarket simple on/off switch which should be lit when in the on position. The third wire is for the light inside the switch to indicate "on".
Trace the wires and report back where they go.

OhMyGod - DON'T TOUCH THE RED SWITCH!!!! BACK AWAY SLOWLY!! Whew, THAT was close. In fact, don't even LOOK at the red switch. <shudder>. That is for National Emergencies ONLY. Man, that WAS close.

Hi: Bridget T...I'm so sorry I didn't answer sooner. It appears to be wired direct to National Defence Headquarters...and has now started a complete system "Melt Down". God Save Our Queen!!!

Thanks Floyd,
I will follow the wires to where they go. Ah yes, a convoluted path that does lead to the now burnt out pump. But wait, what is this small wire that continues on....?? Hard to follow..... behind the water tank, behind the battery.... Oh, that's unexpected!.... Wow, could it be? The switch is also a sarcasm switch.

Yes, I agree, I will leave it off.
