I went back to Home Depot and could not find anything to use. What can I use to tape or glue the edges between the insulation? Please, I really want to put it back together, but this is holding me back now. I hate to see her like this...

Am I looking at painted Ensolite on the walls?

If so, you might consider filling those gaps with painter's caulk, which dries to a similar "firmness". Painting over it once it cures would give you a virtually seamless look.

Francesca gave you some good advice. If you take a wadded up damp paper towel, you can stiple the caulk to match the ensolite.... by smushing it against the damp caulk.

Some folks just don't Talk Tech, I guess...

"Smush" is an insider's acronym meaning:

to dab with a slow, methodical, understated, stern hand.

Feel free to ask more questions....

Thank you. I actually was thinking about using painter's caulk. However, when I went to Home Depot they had like 1000 different ones. Which one is the one I should look for?

Before you go filling those seams I would think hard on any extra wiring you may need. things like overhead lights and a powered fan. Hot melt glue the 12 volt wires in and then fill the seam.

Just plain ordinary house brand painter's caulk will do. It's water soluble when fresh and I usually work with a washrag in one hand to correct drips/bumps while I go along.

Side note:
( As a matter of fact, so long as the label says it's paintable you could use any latex caulk at all...this could be a good way to get rid of any you bought for trailer-sealing use before we all came down with both feet about using it instead of butyl putty!)

Do take care to build it up in coats/layers, as directed on labels- if you apply it too thickly all at once it doesn't cure well and may produce cracking.

Donna's stippling idea is a good one- I'd do that as a finish coat once the seams are level with the surrounding Ensolite. On that subject, if I was trying for a totally seamless look, I'd probably use a razor blade to bevel the Ensolite edges some. Idea being to provide a level plane, at least in the most visible areas. But I'm compulsive in the painting-prep department!

I agree with Francesca about trimming away a tiny bit of the old edge. Not only to bevel but to insure a fresh clean edge. I would also tape the edges of the ensolite to keep the caulk from going where you don't want it to go.

Let us know how it goes,
