Help with TV

Have just become a Scamp owner and am planning on a nice spring and summer in the new digs. Wife wants to make sure she can watch tv, has anyone had any luck using their computer for tv? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We got rid of our TV about 10 years ago and watch everything on one of our computers, with a large monitor.

I download all of the shows we want to watch from Usenet (and they're commercial free). We're partial to Britcoms and British drama shows, but watch a few North American shows, as well.

Also, as an alternative, you can install a TV receiver card in your computer, if you want to watch broadcast TV.

I have begun watching TV shows that PBS and The History Channel make available after they air on broadcast. This requires an internet connection. I also watch DVDs on the laptop when a WiFi signal isn't available. I got a large laptop just for this reason. There aren't any over-the-air signals in the remote locations I like to camp, but many RV Parks have Cable TV hookups, which I use when available. I pick up about 15 or 16 over-the-air channels in the back yard with the trailer's TV antenna.

We have a 17in lappy with a tv program in it. We too can watch DVD's listen to CD's surf the net and watch tv programs as long as the campground has wifi and/or cable!!

We don't boondock, so almost all the campgrounds we use have either free wifi and/or cable connection. This lappy takes the place of a 14in colour tv with built in DVD/CD player and it takes up a whole lot less space.

I find that reception is an issue using a usb tuner with a laptop inside our egg. See my discussion in this thread:

If a person is dependent on tv for local news and daily soaps... or local sporting events.... then not having a tv in the trailer might be an issue. In that case I recommend a satellite set-up - many have Direct TV. It's expensive though.

However for most anything else, there's a way to do it with a computer. I don't have any tv hookups at all. My computer can play DVDs which I get through Netflix, or if I have wifi I can watch online - tv series, movies, news - I'm not big on soaps or local sports, and any tv series that's only available on cable or whatever... I can wait for it to be released to DVD as they all are, eventually. ;-)

If you're tech-phobic then maybe one of those DVD players with the screen built in on top, or just a cheapo basic little tv screen and little DVD player. I have a little screen like that for when I want to play video games.

Thanks for the reply. All I would need is the news and weather, but need to keep my wife happy. Looks like the computer will win. Lots of good info her.
