Hi, new 2004 Scamp owner

Hi, thought I'd introduce myself before bombarding you all with questions.

Chet, I live in California, I just bought a 2004 16' side dinette Scamp. Slept in it on Thanksgiving night at my Dad's place in the wine country, and it was great! It lead me to have some questions that I'll ask separately.

I love the trailer, I can't wait to bring it out into the middle of no where and relax! (with a tv ideally)

2004 Scamp 16' SD Questions (furnace, etc.)

Hi all,

I'm new to Scamps and travel trailers in general, but it's great to be on board!

My first question is regarding the furnace. I was told that it only works when I'm plugged into a 110v source. Is this really the case, and if so, why? I don't follow the logic. The heat source is propane, so could the fan really consume so much juice that it makes it completely impractical to run on battery power only? Is there any way around this? How do people stay warm in cold conditions??

I think that's it...for now.

Thank you!

If your furnace is factory stock then you do not need to be plugged in for it to run, it runs off 12v. the issue here is how strong or new is your battery. It may drain your battery over night. Determine your amp hours in the battery, subtract 60% and the balance is what you have available for your furnace and other 12v appliances. You should be able to get thru the night.

You're right, I figured it out. I don't think I had experimented enough with the that circular switch contraption in the storage compartment by the door. Whew, the heater runs on batteries as well, that's a big relief. Thanks.
