I'm reworking the door on our 73
Love Bug. We thought we had someone lined up to do to but he fell through.
Anyway, we are going to do a patch job for now and do a nice
fiberglass door with a window at a later date. Since the existing door is made of a thin plywood with a layer of glass over it we have no depth to the door.
The door is the same thickness, all the way from one edge to the other. There should be part of the door that, when closed, comes inside the door edge. Leaving the outer edge of the door to overlap the doorway edge. I hope this is making sense. This is what enables the door gasket to get a good seal. I have two question
1. I will be adding something to the inside of the door to creat that ledge, wondering what is the average thickness of a door? or how thick is your door?
2. How deep is the recesses that receives the outer edge of your door? the outside of the doorway, where the camper side comes to the door opening. Or is there a standard depth?
Well now, that is about as clear as mud.
Thanks
