How do I secure posts to top bunk?

I bought new cushions, bunk posts, and hardware for our 78' Scamp. Although I was sent 4 rings for the posts, the posts were too long to use all 4, so I fixed only 2, as the base footings. To level, the bed sits on an angle bracket that came welded to post, with the post on the side of the top bunk cushion. What keeps the post attached to the bunk? Do I put something up thru the bracket, into the wood base of the cushion?
