I need a better step

The little green folding step is about 9 inches tall. Besides being too short, esp. if I'm on a slope (I'm on a slight slope in the pic) it moves too easily. I'd like something a little taller (or two steps) that I could anchor to the back bumper. Not mounted, necessarily, just to be able to keep it in place when it is in use. Any suggestions?

Bobbie, You might try the aerobic (sp) step-up things, that is what I use. Just saw some on craigslist for $15 each. It works great as it is light weight and easy to store.

Here's one solution With a bit of ingenuity something could be fashioned to attach to back your trailer which would keep it stable.
And another This is a bit expensive, the main advantage is won't slip and very sturdy,
Yet another This is the one I use. It's very stable and doesn't move once in place. Yet it folds up and travels well.

In something like this I think stability is probably the most important thing, particularly as we go older and falls become major issues.

I used to have an exercise step but they get heavier as they get higher and harder to store. Byron, the one you use looks good, but it's too short. I have a nine inch high step now, it only goes to 8 inches. And the two-step one may be too tall- though i suppose I could carry both and use the 9 inch if we are low and the two-step (at 17 iches) if high.

I agree with you that stability is essential- but right now I've got a 1 foot drop to the top of the stool. That's a bit too much. Maybe a ten inch stool would work if I can find one.

I've used one of those folding steps like you have for years but it is a small target to hit. Not cheap but I have been really pleased with the step shown in Bryon's second link. It's a big target, nonskid and I use the adjustable leg feature to level it and keep it from rocking. (I like a level target for that first step outside and the ground just outside the step isn't always level.)

The door frame works fine as a handrail. A larger target step is a good point- I like the adjustable leg one. Before the next trip I go by Camping World so maybe I'll check out what's available. Or look for a two-step stool that is a little shorter, say, 7 and 14 inches.

I've seen those- huge. Won't work, as it would take too much room in the trailer or car. (Great steps, though.)

I'll figure out what the tallest of the platform types is- that looks to be the best bet and much less likely to be knocked out of place.

I have one of these folding 2 steps and it works OK it says rated for 300 lbs but I wouldn push it that far.

I'm having the same problem and trying to decide if a folding one is worth the extra expense! Our trailer came with a wood one the PO made, and it's step surface area is just smaller than I'd like, and it's a little short.

Why not use actual rv steps? It looks like you have plenty of ground clearance.

I love my exercise steps, $5 at Goodwill, wider than the trailer door so very little chance of missing them as I back out of my Hunter to avoid hitting the door sill. Also wide/big enough to put stuff on when loading or unloading the trailer. The rubber is non-skid and it's easy to level them with 2x4 if needed. They don't weigh much and do a good job of filling the floor to keep the ice chest and other heavy articles in front of the axle while going down the road.

Actual RV steps never seem all that sturdy- and I'm not sure how they'd attach on just a two inch square bumper.

It can be 8", 6" or 4" tall. There are 3 sections that stack together. It is 26" wide, 16" deep and they weighed 11 1/2 lbs. I'll post a pic of them to your FB posting about it. I think I'll be painting them eventually. Loved the price.

I can't see how the folding steps are mounted. I did see some like that online but minimum height was 18 inches and I think sometimes my bumper is lower than that.

I think what I want is either two steps or 10-11 inches high.
