Identifying the Exterior of a 16ft 1979 Scamp

Can anyone help me by looking at the pictures I am attaching and tell me what is stock versus what the previous owner added?

Above the belly band tail lights, exterior door knob and padlock hasp, blue stripe decals, (maybe) the exterior 120 plug on door side, eagle level on front, is that a brass faucet above the wheel.. doorside? If so, THAT's not original. And it looks like the vent for the refrigerator has been filled in by the door.... if there was a refrigerator there.

Tail lights, roof AC, awning rail, door handle & hasp, and blue graphics are adds. Looks like there might be a hole next to the door where the vent for a closet-mounted AC was at one time- could be a factory install or owner add. Door appears to be sagging a bit. There are a few things I can't identify stuck on the curbside. Everything else looks original. Nice windows.

Has anyone added a water heater to there trailer?


Thinking of putting one in and not sure where to add it.

All of what Donna has indicated, but I am going to suggest that perhaps the faucet on the door side is either your city water hook up? or Grey Water drain? both of which would be original and the PO has just screwed that faucet fitting into one of them? Would need to see a closer photo of that area to tell for sure which it is.

Scamp trailers of that age right up until far more recent years never came with the AC on the roof!!! In fact unless the PO did some serious reinforcing of the roof I would be very concerned. Without photos of the interior its hard to say for sure but if this is a Standard 16' or not, if it is then the vent that was filed in by the door may have been for an AC unit that Scamp installed in the bottom half of the tall closet or it may as Donna suggest been for the fridge if it isn't located over on the same kitchen side as the stove as it is normally on a Scamp Standard model.

Mine has a hot water tank - not added by me but done at the factory and its mounted under the sink.

Forgot to mention I am pretty sure that the AC plug on the passenger side is not original and the trailer is missing the spare tire mount - can see what looks to be the holes for it though.

And mine has a hotwater tank, added at the factory, in the rear driver's side bench next to the inverter. Guess they didn't know water and electricity don't mix

Scamp uses Atwood heaters & the one in mine is 6 gallon.

I installed an entire hot water system, with a 4 gallon Suburban water heater, under the left dinette seat of a 13' Scamp. As a 4 gallon one is very tight, some 6 gallon ones may not fit in some units.

I am considering the installation of a bib on the exterior with an outdoor hand held shower similar to some of the newer RV's. Thought it would be nice to stand up and be able to rinse off with warm water.


Has anyone done a similar modification?

Depending on where your water lines run and where you plan on installing it it would be an easy mod. Cut a hole, a couple tee's.........BTW, a multi tool makes a fine cut, very little dust and is very easy to control and doesn't chip the gelcoat like a jig saw. Just lay your outline out on masking tape.

I installed outside shower boxes on all three of the 13' FGRV's I added hot water to in the past few years. On the Scamp it can be a little snug behind the sink plumbing, but can be done. Plan ahead when you add the new faucet.

Try to find a shower port with a quick disconnect on the hose. (Two of mine are marked D&W Sales, Elkhart, IN) The box is smaller, and always tucking the shower hose into the box will eventually lead to kinks in the hose.
