Installing a Fantastic Fan

I read with interest the thread on butyl tape. I was planning on throwing away the 'closed cell' foam gasket supplied with the fan and use the butyl tape. Now I'm not sure. I have used automotive liquid gasket before on other applications with good results. I'm wondering if the automotive sealer is the way to go with the fan?

When i installed my fantastic fan i threw away the foam seal and used butyl tape.I was pleased with the results.
The vent i removed to install fan was about 28 years old and the tape was still plyable.
