Insulating Door???

I have the Door to my 74 Boler off and the window out. Anyone try insulating the door? Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

I do not want to separate the door.

Well, that leaves adding something to the interior and doing something with the window.

Is the interior of the door fiberglass WITHOUT any upholstery, rat fur, ensolite, etc? If there is, I'd remove it and add extra reflectix under it. If there isn't, maybe you could make something out of reflectix and put it in a nice cover and either snap it to the door or velcro?

You can create an inside panel out of plexiglass and install that to the inside of the door window to create a faux dual-pane window.

Other have any ideas?

Not sure about insulating the door. I haven't looked at that yet, but might be able to fill it with door and window foam (from a can).

Thanks for the ideas, Donna D and Willy's!!!

The door is striped bare for repairs. I have upgraded the window and feel it should be ok with the curtains. Would like to fill inside the door. Plan on cleaning out the door latch mount (it's mostly rotten), so there will be nothing inside to hang up on.

Like the idea of spray foam, and covering the inside of the door.

Any other ideas?

Just be careful of spray foam. Some brands will "over swell" and may distort your door. We've had this same discussion about insulating double-hull trailers (Burro, U-Haul, etc.).

When I was 17 I worked for a carpenter framing houses. I was sent to the hardware to get spray foam to put around the windows in the house before the drywall went in. Oops I bought a high expansion foam. Well the outcome was that the foam broke half the windows in the house. Needless to say it was a bad day for me.
