Jack Interference

Something seems wrong here, a fairly short right turn will put the jack into my bumper. Does everyone have this problem?

I assume you can't just move it back or it would have been installed back further originally. Have you considered putting a non-folding jack inside the triangle formed by the tongue. That is how my Boler is.

This tongue jack is NOT Scamp standard. Scamp uses a top winder. Since the bracket is welded to the frame it might be easier to replace the jack. There's lots to choose from at places like eTrailer.

Not too easy to move, the bracket is welded on to the tongue very well. I looked at Scamp web site, and this is something someone has put on later, not original. I think I can find another shorter one that willl not interfere, and will fit right on the welded on bracket.
Thanks guys..

Swing it 180degrees and see if it fits better.
If not , there is a circlip to remove it and you could replace it with a top crank which folds over for transport like Byron said.

I like those swing-away side mount jacks, but I use ones from Harbor Freight that bolt on with brackets. They can be positioned farther back, usually. That one does look dangerous to your bumper!

I have a 2010 13' Scamp which i am selling. look in current classifieds and see photos. (john j. norris) I removed the jack mounted between the trailer tow channels and welded a Stub for a swivel jack in a location so as not to inter fear with turning. I'de give it a ten for working out well. Main reason for going this way is all the time when pulling out from service stations it would drag the roadway, bending the darn thing (without the wheel or stand). and also, now I can let my tail gate down. or lift the lift gate on the Dodge without hitting that damned jack.

How about one of these. You weld on the short section of pipe you can then ether swivel it out of the way or remove it completely.

Why not get a longer stinger for your receiver, another 4" may do the trick. but remember it will decrease your capacity of the hitch set up, so stay within your limits. another is to remove the old weld on jack and get a bolt on jack from etrailer, some style but it can be moved back.

Well, that's not always true. My 1988 Scamp has a side mounted jack with the welded plate just like Don's, and it's original from the factory. So, I'd think it depends on the year of the trailer. The jack Don showed isn't from Scamp, but the original welded bracket is for a side mounted jack. I wonder if it's problematic because the jack is too long? Is it possible to get a shorter jack?

You have it nailed Donna, it becomes obvious that someone for some reason replaced the original jack, and this long job was what was in stock at the time. I am going to find a shorter one that will fit the welded on bracket, probably like yours.
