L400 Bargman Cylinder Need Advice

Hi everyone,
I just picked a 1978 13ft Boler and I'm thrilled. The door latch close fine but I can't lock it.

From what I've read I probably need to replace the cylinder, any advice on places in Canada or online I can buy spare parts. I've seen a few on ebay but not sure exactly what I need to repair it so it will lock.

Can anyone direct me to a thread where this has been documented in detail with pics?

Thanks
Russ

oh oh. It won't be easy, and may not be cheap. Pull it, take it to a locksmith and see if they can do some magic first..then, if they can't..go to plan B.

Plan B..modify door and replace the whole assembly with something different.

Plan C. Be prepared to spend LOTS of money for a new one. I have seen them for 400 + bones, but if you do due diligence, you can get them for a couple hundred.

"Bargman 400" you will find LOTS of info on them.

Maybe just a good clean and lube. I don't know about the L400 latch, but I've found my L300 won't lock on the inside unless the key cylinder is centered, that is the key has to be in the center of it's rotational travel when removed for the inside lock to work.

Agreed, any work on the locksmiths bench can be quick and economical. I recently had my deadbolt on the front door of the house start sticking due to multiple thin secondary pins for mastering. I asked to remove the mastering and just single pin it to the key we use. It was done in a few minutes for less than $20 cash. The cylinder works again.

I will definitely take it to a locksmith to get it checked out. Great suggestion. Problem is with my L400 when I turn the key it just keeps turning, almost like there is no cylinder inside. I hope it's not too costly in the end.

Old lock parts

I picked up a Bagman new L300 last year in the states for less than $150 USD. The tumblers in the old lock are still working and I will be replacing the lock this week. With our new postal rates I have no idea what it will cost to ship it but if the cylinders are interchangeable you can have the old one or the entire unit.
My 13 ft. is up for sale and the new lock goes with it.
We have a possible 10 inches of snow forecast for overnight so I do not know when I will get out to work on it.
Let me know... Scouter Dave

Hummm, I think this is a great price for an L-400, which is really different than the L-300! We've seen "pieces" for an L-400 go on eBay for about twice this... YMMV
